Synthetic rubber output up by 27 pc in Jan 2010

NEW DELHI: The production of synthetic rubber rose by 27 per cent to 10,249 tonnes in January, against 8,063 tonnes in the year-ago period, according to the latest Rubber Board data. 

Consumption grew by 50 per cent to 33,445 tonnes in January 2010 over 22,255 tonnes in the same month last year, on the back of high demand from auto tyre manufacturers. 

From April to January, production increased by 11 per cent to 89,512 tonnes, against 80,196 tonnes in the year-ago period. India had produced 96,739 tonnes of synthetic rubber during 2008-09. 

Consumption stood at 2,81,965 tonnes in April-January, 2009-10, up 16 per cent from 2,42,255 tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. In fiscal year 2008-09, consumption stood at 2,92,950 tonnes.
